Medication Administration

This is a one-day programme that will enable candidates to understand the responsibilities of administering medication to another person.

Aims:

  • State the legal and statutory requirements in relation to medication administration, including storage, monitoring and record keeping.
  • To understand the implications of their organizations policy and procedure in relation to medication administration.
  • Have the opportunity to discuss concerns they may have within their daily practice.

  • Legal Issues
  • Policy and Procedure
  • Concerns / issues from daily practice
  • 'What if' scenarios
  • Medication errors
  • Information about medication:
  • a. Tablets.
  • b. Generic and brand names.
  • c. Medicines other than tablets.
  • Reference books
  • Effects of medication
  • Side effects

The course will be delivered in an interactive manner drawing on the experience of the candidates, group work, question and answer sessions etc.
