Dementia Care

This is a one day programme.

Aims:

  • To help participants gain an understanding of dementia and how it affects those who suffer from it.
  • To gain insight into how dementia affects every day activities, with a view to improving care planning, delivery and evaluation for the individual.

Topics Covered:

  • What is dementia.
  • Types of dementia.
  • Common problems: memory loss, perception (disorientation), problem solving, loss of independence.
  • Who it affects.
  • Care assessment and planning.
  • Drug therapy.
  • Care relating to some specific difficulties encountered: communication, challenging/disruptive, inappropriate behaviour, incontinence.
