Coping With Loss and Bereavement

This is a one-day programme that will enable candidates to share their experiences of loss and bereavement at work and how they dealt with it and to discover more effective ways of coping with this issue.

At the end of the session the candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the emotions of people recently bereaved
  • Be aware of different cultural and religious attitudes to death
  • Feel more confident about responding to people's needs

The course will cover the following topics:

  • The bereavement process.
  • The vicious circle of loss.
  • The factors influencing reaction to bereavement.
  • The task of mourning.
  • What is Grief?
  • Cultural and Religious aspects.
  • The loss of a Child.
  • The art of listening.

The course will be delivered in an interactive manner drawing on the experience of the candidates, group work, question and answer sessions etc followed by a multiple-choice test paper.
